3D Modeling and Animation

Course Description
In the 2-year 3D modeling and animation course at Pike-Lincoln students will explore the different career opportunities in the wide field of 3D animation and design. In the class, students will learn the basics of animation tools, animation techniques and basic animation programming. Students will be able to apply these skills in advertising, movie and video production, game development and many other industrial applications.

Students will be able to:

A. Sketch design idea and produce primitive based models from sketch design.
B. Select and modify objects using multiple selection methods or tools.
C. Use layers to separate content.
D. Manipulate pivot points to achieve desired results.
E. Establish a grid system to facilitate design.
F. Create groups in a scene to aid the design process
G. Define and build links between objects
H. Describe parametric versus editable object types
I. Show understanding of normals by cleaning designs
J. Utilize drawings aids to create and modify objects using Animation Tools.
K. Demonstrate basic proficiency in current operating system.
L. Utilize multiple industry software packages to create models, Video and Still images.
M. Utilize search engines to locate and complete tutorial, import and export files, install and uninstall software, download attachments and software zip files.
N. Create and manipulate various complex, organic forms from a box primitive and a lathed shape.
O. Transform editable poly sub-objects for fine-tuning the model shape.
P. Identify the need and apply mesh smooth and other modifiers to convert a rough model to a smooth one.
Q. Describe the need for face extrusion and then apply technique to create geometry.
R. Create loop animation to create desired effect.
S. Manipulate shaders, visibility and other material modifiers to create visual effects.
T. Describe and then use standard and photometric lights.
U. Distinguish differences between radiosity controls and standard light and then show in a product.
V. Effective interpret and respond to verbal and nonverbal instructions.
W. Effectively communicate thoughts, ideas and information in writing and drawing.
X. Locate, understand, and interpret written information in documents such as manuals, graphs, schedules, sketches, and drawings.
Y. Work cooperatively with others when given a group design project.
Z. Demonstrate appropriate attitudes and behaviors for effective leadership.
AA. Participate in the implementation of a group’s decision and evaluates the results.
